Taj Deccan, in association with The Torn Curtains, is hosting a cerebral play called Meri Kahani: My Story, on 9th May, in the lawns of the hotel. The play is directed by Mala Pasha and written by Mehreen Poonja and Umbreen Inayet, and this is their debut production in India.

Meri Kahani is a series of 6 monologues focusing on different stories of domestic violence. It was written not only to raise questions about abuse and violence in the Indian community, but also to bring about awareness and affect positive change. It is a play written by two Torontonians of Indian origin, based on their interviews and research of the issues faced by South-Asian immigrant women.

The monologues in this play express issues of domestic violence that they feel are relevant not only in the specific societies, but globally. The first Indian production will be held in Hyderabad, after which the group intends to travel throughout India. The cast in the play are Vikram Tatwani, Shipla Shankar, Mehek Arora, Nafessa Kassim, Sheela Mathews, Sheila Naidu, Madhu Swaminathan, Sheela Mathews, Yasmin Madon, Zubin Kumar and Shilpa Shankar.

The Torn Curtains is a theatre group established in Hyderabad in 1971. It has to its credit plays like "The Letter" by Somerset Maugham, "Time to Kill" by Diana Morgan, Jean Anouilh's "Antigone", Anthony Shaffer's "Murder", Derek Benfield's "In for the Kill", "Becket" by Anouilh, "Gas Light" by Patrick Hamilton, etc.

In 1991, The Torn Curtains decided to shift away from drawing room theatre and murder mysteries, into a different genre of more localized and meaningful theatre. With theatre being such a powerful medium, the group felt it could use it in a more socially productive way. The Torn Curtains then started to put on productions written and based in India, always including a social issue undertone. The results of this shift were Love, Divorce And Carrot Juice by Tony Mirchandani, Lights Out by Manjula Padmanabhan, and Where There's a Will by Mahesh Dattani, among others.
