The Hyderabad Theatre Festival from the 10th June to the 14th at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan auditorium.
Adding to the budding fervour for theatre in the city, and taking passion for the field to another level is Samahaara, the theatre wing of 'The Magic If Creations,' the first theatre company of Hyderabad, and has been around for 5 years now, making efforts take theatre to the young, through plays, theatre workshops, technical support and directorial services.
The Hyderabad Theatre Festival is one of their initiatives in that direction. The event will see theatre groups from Hyderabad showcasing their productions.
On 14th June, the last day of the festival, Dramanon is presenting 'The Good Doctor'. The play, directed by R K shenoy, is set in Russia during the 19th Century and was written in Chekhovian style comedy by Neil Simon. It is composed of a series of scenes in which the only connecting thread is the character of the writer, and consists of a working class man under the pressure of being an underdog, a Casanova taking a class on the art of seduction, a liberal father wanting his son to have a stint with a prostitute, banker being harassed by an unknown lady and two aged strangers meeting in a park.
Dramanon (Dramatist Anonymous) is a theatre fraternity founded by two faculty members of the colleges in Manipal, in the year 2000. A few alumni of Dramanon Manipal, who are now full-time professionals, helped Dramanon spread its wings by establishing chapters in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Delhi.
