Saimakhya Bharathi, in association with Chaitanya Art Theatres, is organising a
theatre festival from 7th to 9th February, at the Ravindra Bharathi auditorium. 5 plays will be staged during the 3-day festival.
The 2nd day of the festival will feature a Telugu mythology drama Sri Krishna Rayabaram, staged by Sri Satya Sai Kala Niketan from Hyderabad.
Arjuna and Duryodhana both seek Lord Krishna's help for the battle of Mahabharata. Lord Krishna obliges and asks them to choose between himself, unarmed, and his mammoth army. Duryodhana takes the army and leaves the Lord for Arjuna. Arjuna gladly agrees. With the wit of the Lord, Arjuna wins over Duryodhana and the Kauravas, and the rest is, well, history. The sequence of events that lead to the wooing of the Lord by Arjuna and Duryodhana, the Rayabaram, is what the play is all about.
The drama was written by Terupati Venkatakavulu and directed by Gummadi Gopalakrishna. Gummadi Gopalakrishna as Sri Krishna, Subba Rao as Duryodhana, Salvachari as Bheema and Baburaj as Arjuna, play the central characters.
Samaikhya Bharathi and Chaitanya Art Theatres are two respected cultural organisations of the twin cities. Both are committed towards reviving theatre, and organise cultural events regularly.
