There's always a lot of discussion about which is the best Biryani joint in Hyderabad. The names that come up the most are Bawarchi, Paradise, Cafe Bahaar, Alpha, Madina, Shadaab, Astoria, and more recently, Hyderabad House.

Each of them is good in their own way, but my personal favourite has always been the Chicken Biryani of Astoria. I am not a big mutton fan, and I don't insult the place by ordering vegetarian food there :), but the chicken biryani there has to be the best.

Order a Chicken Biryani with "double masala", and insist on a "leg piece". The waiters will get u the desired cut, if u ask for it. Have it with the gravy and buttermilk sides, with an ice cold bottle of Thums Up to wash it down.

While you are there, DO NOT look at the people around you, or the floor, or the furniture, or the cleanliness of the plates and silverware. You are there for only one thing, and that is on the plate in front of you. :)

For a long time, my definition of HEAVEN was "Go to Astoria for dinner with a bunch of buddies, have Chicken biryani, come out of the restaurant, sit on the steps outside, chat for sometime over a cold meetha pan and Gold Flake Kings cigarettes, then go and watch a movie in the nearby theatre". What can beat that guys???

Ahh, gone are the days, not the memories!!!
