Much the gem tucked away in the busy Secunderabad business district, Hotel Karan springs quite a surprise. While it is under renovation as we write this in Aug 2007, even the work in progress exhibits potential grace. It is set slightly away from the main Sarojini Devi Road, in a quiet bylane. That, in fact, is the stated USP of the place - its comparatively pollution-free, noise-free immediate environment.

Another good thing here is the visible effort taken to make the place wheel-chair accessible. As part of its refurbishment exercise, Hotel Karan has consciously chosen to create space for the not so fortunate among us. While these are the standard building practices for larger hotels, it is heartening to see a reasonable mid-priced establishment making its way in the right direction. It also has its own wheelchairs in case of need.

While the hotel does have in-house room service facilities, its prime location compels the out-of-town traveler to try out some of the best-known eating places in Hyderabad. If you are staying here, you will be, but a short walk away from one of the most popular Chinese places Nanking, the Taj Tristar for tried-and-tested good food, Hotel Abhiruchi for Indian food, and ...oh, ask the front desk and they will guide you with pleasure.

Besides food, the front desk will also inform you about your option to be able to walk to the legendary Parade Grounds. Not only can you have a great early morning constitutional, but you might also be able to interact with the amiable local regulars, if you are so inclined.

The place seems to accent the aspects of health and hygiene - quite the buzzword for this generation in any case. With great ideas and executionable plans, Hotel Karan could definitely land itself in a niche.
