The Scene
Lakdi-ka-Pul and chic can at best appear in the same sentence, and Indu is a typical Lakdi-ka-Pul restaurant (think all the Dwarakas and Ayodhyas and Rajdhanis). Located inconspicuously next to Kamat, Indu Deluxe is mostly a glorified mess that made a name for itself with some good non-vegetarian food (it also helps that there's very little in the vicinity that serves non-veg outside of a few star hotels).

The place looks like a government office canteen, and you ought to be pretty clear that it is the food you are going for. Though it's mostly employees in the vicinity (and mostly male) that patronize the place, it is popular among family crowds too. There are about 20 tables, and in peak hours usually all are occupied.

The Food
Indu serves basically vegetarian thalis (Rs. 62 in Mar 2008), and pulkas (Rs. 6 each). Aside of that, it serves 3-5 dishes each in mutton, chicken, seafood and egg. So you get mutton and chicken biryani, and curries like Mutton Roast, Mutton Liver, Mutton Kheema, Mutton Special, Chicken Ginger, Chicken Liver, Chicken Roast, Chicken Curry, Egg Curry, Omelette, Fish Curry, Fish Fry, Prawns Ginger, Prawns Curry and Prawns Roast. The biryanis cost Rs. 80-90, and the curries Rs. 70-90 (prawn dishes cost Rs. 125+, and egg dishes Rs. 20). There are also some ice creams.

Indu is very popular for the non-vegetarian food, which, like we said, is also helped by poor choice in the area. The place is not exactly dirt-cheap given the ordinary ambience and that the menu is quite frugal, but it stays crowded often, and even attracts people from Secunderabad. It's a good idea to find out why. And if you are vegetarian, there's nothing here for you that the mess opposite won't offer at half the price.

The Verdict
Downmarket diners have a charm of their own for people who like to experience everything life has to offer, and eating at Indu can even be an exotic experience. Just don't quote us on it. But on that it serves great non-veg, please feel free.
