Editorial Review

This is the valium of all movies, guaranteed to put you (and everyone else watching) to sleep within the first fifteen minutes. And if you thought that was all, well this also happens to be a very painful movie. In fact so painful that if you sit through the movie, it’s ample penance to leave you sin-free for life.

The movie is set on an island named Chun-wah (which could be anywhere in the Orient) and is all about the residents of that island (or is it another planet?) who are mostly peasants and live on fish caught from the sea. This fish is caught by the evil elders (fancy that, old men fishing) at whose mercy the peasants are. And all that these old men want in return is sex (which we never get to see, that’s if they are getting it in the first place).

A few women revolt, and are thrown into the sea, and since they all look alike one never knows who’s in and who’s out (of a badly made film, i. e.). After this, the confusion starts from where the film makes no sense. Just a series of flashbacks, voodoo-rituals, murders and other atrocities committed against women (and us as well).

On the whole, a very poor film. And if that’s not enough, it’s a flick dubbed into English from some Cantonese dialect.

A dream for all die-hard masochists.
