Lady Vengeance

Just like its female lead's name, this movie too seems incomplete. Whether the honors for that go to the local censors or the producer ran out of money all of a sudden remains a mystery, more exciting than the ones left in the movie itself.

The movie starts out with this very docile gal-in-specs college student called Sandra, who is led astray by a few hunks on the night of the school-leaving prom. The gullible female doesn't see through their leering looks or the obviously heavy smell of alcohol in their breath. What follows is anybody's guess, as the movie suddenly teleports to some ten years later where the hunks, now very successful family people and well placed in society, are shown to be close friends still. Panic sets in when one of these is brutally murdered with the single letter 'S' scratched on his chest with a knife. Enter a cop with the IQ of Einstein and the looks of a Greek god.

As you can expect, the friends start to get murdered one by one in a similar fashion, and each incident has a new letter of the alphabet inscribed. Until we are finally led into the great secret by two remaining ones that, on that fateful night at college, the five friends, after having too much to drink, had raped the helpless Sandra and left her for dead in a ditch.

To guess who the mystery-murderer is shouldn't require a Sherlock, but it takes our cop-detective another murder to learn the truth that it is our ol' gal Sandra out for vengeance! And in the interim, he makes a stunning discovery that all of our fallen heroes were really wolves in gentlemen's clothing, and were actually conspiring against the Government. So the final villain falls too, this time to the cop's bullet. The cop, of course, quickly manages to fall in love with the deadly Sandra, and all her are crimes are forgotten.

An okay story for a B-grade movie, you might think, but what comes across actually is a totally confusing affair of all the characters mouthing some hastily thought-up dialogues, before quickly jumping from one bed into another. And the film is filled with meaningless bedroom sequences, which are, of course, brought to as abrupt an end as the beginning.

The movie seems to have been taken too seriously by the actors, leading to some pretty painful enacting in some scenes. The film never looks to take up, which frankly is a tough job if you rarely take the camera out of the boudoir! And what happens in these bedrooms is left to the viewers' imagination by the censors. So sharp are the cuts that one can sense the snip of the scissors even before it comes!

Well, you might still dare to venture into subjecting yourself to this movie for playing the guessing game yourself... write back here if your imagination comes up with a different interpretation of the loose strings and the gaping holes in the story line.
