Kandukuri Ramesh Babu's 'Ode To Womanhood'
by fullhyd.com
While women continue to battle oppression and discirmination across the world even today, attacks on regressive and patriarchal ideas, attitudes and behaviours are also becoming increasingly fierce.
Many use the medium of visual art to question and reject age-old social ideas reeking of sexism. Photojournalist Kandukuri Ramesh Babu, known for celebrating the mundane, has also attempted to do exactly this in his newest solo exhibition, An Ode to Womanhood.
70 stunning photographs of women capture them in their moments of quiet reflection, mirth, or in the midst of their chores. The pictures are framed not for male consumption, as images of women in popular media so often are, but to sincerely celebrate the everyday trials and triumphs of women of all ages.
In the unpretentious series, Ramesh Babu captures with honesty women navigating their way through the world. Striking palettes and clever plays of light and shadow make each picture a treat to behold.
In this ode to women, the photographer also rejects, quietly and subtly, a lie we all grow up with - that there is one objective standard of beauty.
You can catch the exhibition till April 30 at the Samanya Sastram Gallery in Manikonda.
